Party Animals art show at Royal/T in LA, CA JULY 2011

Royal/T of LA presents Party Animals, curated by Lindsay Scoggins. Party Animals is a group exhibition focusing on artists’ use of recognizable creatures and animals as a means of reanimating childhood experiences and curiosities. Works aim to construct an ambiance of imagination where opposing forces such as domestic and wilderness merge, alluding to an extended notion of anthropomorphism and zoomorphism. Various beastly beautiful beings bring the viewer’s current mental standpoint into question, reflecting upon past moments with new sentiment and value. Purposefully remaining aloof of mere commentary and literal representation, Party Animals presents various mediums, such as drawing, painting, video and installation, creating ironic, transgressive fabrications in which a cruel, bare innocence is confronted by the intoxication of escapism. Included works have been birthed from a childlike innocence of viewing animals on a level plane of existence with humans.
Preliminary artists include Christen Bach, Sue de Beer, Mattia Biag, George Condo, Roberto Cuoghi, Andre Ethier, Mark Grotjahn, Jim Hodges, Matt Johnson, Ken Kagami, Misaki Kawai, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Bryce Kristchman, Miakiko Kudo, Yayoi Kusama, Sherrie Levine, Jillian Mayer, Ted Mineo, Shintaro Miyake, Okamoto Mitsuhiro, Takashi, Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Mike Reynolds, Amanda Ross-Ho, Wilhelm Sasnal, Lindsay Scoggins, Raqib Shaw, David Shrigley, TM SISTERS, David Tamargo, Ken Tanaka, Aya Takano and FriendsWithYou. FWY will present “Godly,” an inflatable sculpture showcased at Art Basel 2010 Building Blocks exhibition. This piece represents the pursuit of perfection and the understanding that never reaching that perfection is perfect or “Godly” itself. The show will open July 9th 2011 and remain on exhibit at the Royal/T gallery in California through November 2011
